Diagnosis and troubleshooting Hardware

What is the hardware?

Do these terms sound familiar? Monitor, RAM, CD, CPU, graphics cards are all hardware, or more precisely, the computer hardware. These components are a computer, working with computer software on a computer to function.

In short, the hardware is the tangible part of your computer parts you can touch, feel, and so on.

Hardware Issues

As mentioned above, for hardware and software work together to complete afunctional system, in theory. However, we rarely get a fully working system at all times. There are almost certainly the fault of hardware, both in electronic circuits or even the whole component. Sometimes the input source is not the fault of the hardware components of the system itself but by external factors such as environmental disasters such as fires, earthquakes and storms.

Restoration of defective hardware is not a greatproblem in itself. In reality, is to identify and replace the problematic component. However, hardware faults are more deadly when they affect the daily habits that affect critical personal or business data. This is particularly true for the main component of a computer system for data storage, the hard disk.

The following is a list of common hardware problems:

Defects RAM
Power Connector
Hard Disk
Overheating
LCD Defects
Motherboard
USBBox

Defects RAM

Bad RAM is somewhat difficult to diagnose because similar symptoms can be caused by software problems, hardware problems or other defective motherboard. But if you have any of these symptoms, users must check bad RAM before all the other problems.

Symptoms:

Windows does not start with a different error message every time.
Windows crashes (blue screen) or locks up often.
Windows crashes when you try to start a program.
Unexplained random crashes and freezes without error.

Power Adapter

The common defect in a laptop is the DC power jack. If someone trips over the cable and adapter is still connected to the laptop, there is a high possibility that the power jack will be severely damaged.

In most laptops, the DC power jack directly soldered to the motherboard and there are only three or four small pins stuck, making the power jack rather weak. Each side to draw the DC power cord while the laptop used to release at least one of these pins, breaking the solder around it. modern laptops use a lot of power, about 70W to 120W or more. The poor electrical connection pin displaced sparks and heat that will eventually burn a hole through the motherboard and can even cause a fire.

Symptoms that the contact between the DC power jack, and indicates theMotherboard:

The battery is not charging properly or remain in the middle of the structure, despite the fact that the adapter.
The flickering of the screen (brightness variations), while the cable is plugged in. This is caused by the transition between the laptop DC power (the screen is brighter) and battery (screen is dimmer).
The hot-plug DC after a few minutes of use, and may also smell something burning.
There are "scratching" sounds from the DC jack.

As proof of the power brokenjack:

1. Remove the battery

2. Connect the power

3. Start the laptop

4. Gently rock the DC plug on the back of the laptop

If the laptop suddenly shuts down (losing power), find a dealer to re-weld or modify the DC power jack, not just the mother has already started to burn around the pins driven. The manufacturer may offer to replace the entire motherboard, but the price of a new motherboard with the cost of laborinstallation will generally take more than the present value of the laptop and the cost can sometimes cost more than a thousand dollars.

Replace or re-solder the DC power jack is not an easy job. It usually takes several hours, depending on the damage and the model of the laptop. Reaching the power jack, the handset must be completely dismantled and removed the motherboard. Then, if the card around the pin is driven badly burned, the power supply must be welded and un-the board must be patched.

After another power connection must be installed, affixed to the body of the laptop and connected by cables to the motherboard, because the Council would not be strong enough to patch the original type of power connector soldered directly to support the Board of Directors.

Hard Disk

hard disk failures are the most common computer hardware. And laptop hard drive desktop hard drive more often because of the portability of a laptop comparedsluggish laptop. If you blow or a fall of the laptop, even a few centimeters, while the hard drive is accessible or activated, the damage can be done for the HDD.

Symptoms:

The laptop starts up as usual, but when Windows starts to load it in bluescreen with "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME", "hal.dll missing or corrupt" or "WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM" (or similar) is missing or damaged. All these error messages indicate a problem file. Sometimesdetermined by a simple scan of your hard disk for errors. But more than half of these cases show that the hard drive starts to go wrong and probably is the development of bad sectors.
The laptop starts normally, but Windows crashes on the first "Windows XP" screen, but the blue bar keeps moving, and users are able to listen to fake, but constantly clicking. The hard disk must be replaced.
Once the laptop is started, there are loud clicking or grinding noises, and Windows will not load. HardThe disc must be replaced.
Shortly after starting the laptop a message (usually on a black screen) "SMART test failed. Backup your data immediately and replace the hard drive" or something similar. Well, this says it all. SMART is a self-test that is created on the hard disk.

In almost all cases, the laptop can be booted from a CD "live" bootable and everything works normally. In rare cases, the disc drive PCB (Printed Circuit Board) may have shorted out and even burn. Inthis scenario, the laptop will not start unless the hard disk is removed.

A good tool to use to check the hard disk life is the pawn of ADRC. It scans your hard drive for bad sectors and will inform you if the drive is good usability.

Overheating

Overheating occurs when the air flow enough outside the computer case and motherboard and CPU on the back of the case usually via the power supply fan and other case fans.

Once the airflowdistortion, the heat builds up quickly in the case. This ensures that both components of close, if such protection is not built or is working properly. In the long term, it can cause irreparable damage to the components to overheat.

You should also keep your computer in a dry and shady is substance and not clean.

LCD Defects

The most common LCD or liquid crystal display is faulty inverter, cable and lighting.

Symptoms:

The handsetseems to start as usual, but the screen is black, as users move, and seems to work well. Unable to cable.
The laptop appears to start as usual, but the screen is very dark, but it changes the color a bit 'and users can view an image look fake. Failed inverter or cable 90% / 10%.
Immediately after the start of the screen is dark pink / dark red and turns after a few seconds. backlight failed.
The screen flicker a few times, but dark, if users move or touch gentlythe sides, flickering again. Unable to cable or LCD 50% / 50%.
The screen is black or white (no picture) and the external monitor works. Unable to cable or LCD 30% / 70%.
There are stripes on the screen (horizontal or vertical) that change as users move the screen or touching the sides. Unable to cable or LCD 10% / 90%.

Motherboard

The vast majority of failures are related to the motherboard due to "Ship regulated component failure within those circuits. L 'board power supply circuit had partially failed and was overloaded following parts otherwise the problem would be the capacitors are damaged first.

A motherboard on a laptop that is out of warranty would usually means it's time for a new laptop. The price of a new motherboard is usually higher than the present value of the laptop.

Symptoms:

Connect the power adapter and try starting the laptop.

Nothing happens.
"ON" lightrises, the fan is running, but nothing on the screen (black) and you can not hear the HD working after 10-15 seconds.
"ON" lights up, the fan runs, but after a few seconds the light goes out.
After pressing the ON button, the screen stays black and you hear a sharp noise from the handset.

damaged or incorrect driver and the operating system

device drivers, invalid or corrupted can wreck havoc on a server, making the system unbootable in some cases.Device drivers may also conflict with certain applications and problems with the computer system.

If Windows Vista has just launched, it is likely that some hardware is not supported or not fully support the new OS.

Even system updates, driver updates can also fix your "hardware" problems.

It also helps (occasionally) to call their support service to assist the driver to the specifichardware.

Controller will not:

A controller can not act much like a disk failure. However, if a drive fails, users can not access that particular disc, if a controller fails, users can not access all the records, equipment and all other components connected to that particular controller.

A controller fails because a component or components on the controller board failure. When a user tries to boot, can not afford it, view, access, or evenget messages hardware conflict.

Controller failure occurs because of one of the following reasons:

Equipment / components are not connected
Make sure the cables are connecting the device / component to the controller
If the item fits into a slot, which is not rinsed, and loosely connected.

Equipment / parts are not set
Check that the equipment / components correctly identified and set in the setup of the controller onscreen

Bad connectors
Replace the bad connectors with new works

Poor shares
Replace the part

Poor interface card or motherboard
It is recommended that these parts are replaced or sent for computer maintenance

Hardware failure: the big problem

The big problem, as discussed above, not replacing or repairing non-functional hardware, but the lost time, breaks the daily routine (especially forcompanies), and the loss of important data. If you have a working system at any time, have a backup system as a fail-safe, or even two. If users want to make sure that none of their critical data lost in the event of a hardware problem with their computer, there's only one way to do it - back up your data as often as possible.

There are many ways to ensure that the data backup, and as technology advances, one of the methods of backup much easier.

Let's seeAs a backup. Back up the files on your computer means that users copy the data somewhere else and then saved to the computer network. Everyone should always have a backup of important files, at least, because you have a hardware problem, it may still be able to open the files.

Many people do not back up their files because they do not know what to do a backup. Start with those files that can not be easily recreated. Then, move on to files to which you make frequent changes just in case you accidentally change something that you shouldn't have. Back up your music collection - because this can be quite expensive to replace in the event of data loss.

In general, best practice is to back up the files at least monthly and more frequently if users access the files regularly.
