Energy is something we are increasingly concerned with the modern world. Personal computers should not be ignored in terms of amount of energy they consume each day. A typical modern PC can consume about 100W in idle and close to 150W under heavy use. For a system of high-power game these figures can be doubled.
If the PC is left on all day, these figures represent a significant portion of electricity bills, especially if you have an officefull PC.
When building your own PC (s) may be taken to the machine as efficiently as possible. It should also be noted that to make your PC green but you have to take into account the amount of lead in computer components. Lead in solders for electronic components that make up a printed circuit board. Components that low levels of lead and other toxic elements are often branded as "RoHS" requirements.
There are three important contributions toenergy consumption of a PC.
1. Power Supply Unit (PSU)
The ideal diet should be 100% efficient, ie, the power consumed is equal to the power delivery from the computer. This is of course impossible, and what the force is converted into heat and sound, but modern PSU often greater than 80% efficient.
The power supply should also be able to provide energy when needed and not just sit on your PC to burn electricity when the power is not needed.
To be sure to choosea wider range of 80% efficiency, make sure that there is "80 Plus" certification. This also ensures that the ballast is lead free and RoHS.
2. Processor (CPU)
There are a number of available processors that are designated as "green." They tend to be a bit 'more expensive than their non-green, and even slower, but the performance difference is not huge. If you do not want to buy green for the dual-core CPU and check the stickspecifications for energy, especially when idling.
Of course you do not need a standard processor in your PC. You can in fact use a laptop processor, although you can hunt around for a supplier. These are low-power CPU and have a number of energy-saving features, but as a CPU are a little green 'expensive.
3. Monitor
If you have a good old CRT monitor, but you plan to use the new green buildingPC, think again. These types of monitors are hungry monsters that have now had their day. Modern LCD panels are greener, more energy efficient, and indeed a better viewing experience to choose the right type of panel.
